Fly Fishing for Carp

Although the threat is new, Mondayâ € ™ s legal action is based on a century-old dispute between Michigan and Illinois regarding Chicago € ™ s diversion of Lake Michigan from the Great Basin Lakes.

The Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal, the epicenter of the battle of the Asian carp, which opened in 1900. It was built to divert CITYA € ™ s sewage into the Illinois River and Mississippi River basin instead of Lake Michigan, the primary source of the CITYA ™ € s drinking water.

To get diversion, engineers reversed the Chicago Rivera € ™ s natural flow away from the lake through a series of locks and pumping stations.Although hailed as an engineering marvel, the canal has attracted lawsuits brought by several states, including Missouri, Michigan and New York â € "and the federal government â €" that claimed the threatened diversion of users' downstream water and lowered water from the Great Lakes € ™ levels.
